Georgia accident that killed 2 may have started with a DUI

If someone is climbing Brasstown Bald or riding fast watercraft off Little Tybee Island, he or she may think that driving around the Peach State is not the riskiest activity one could find. But the roads in Georgia can be treacherous, and some drivers end up liable for the injury and damage that they caused through recklessness or negligence.

Accidents that could not be avoided may turn out to be worse because of bad decisions made by drivers who come across them. An early morning accident that claimed two lives may result in criminal charges for the driver of a sedan that initiated a multivehicle accident on the Georgia section of Interstate 95.

The sedan in question struck another car, and the occupants sought refuge on the left shoulder. Two sport utility vehicles then struck the disabled car, which at some point caused fatal injuries to a mother and daughter who had been in the car. The daughter died at the scene and the mother passed away after transport to the hospital.

Officers with the Georgia State Patrol stated a belief that the driver of the sedan that started the incident may have been under the influence of alcohol. Warrants for a DUI arrest are pending against the 20-year-old Rhode Island resident.

Victims of DUI accidents and other motor vehicle accidents have the right to seek financial damages in civil court regardless of the criminal charges that local prosecutors may or may not bring. An attorney can help victims and their survivors work out the best way to attempt to claim damages.
